Eskom is a South African electricity public utility which was established in 1922 as the Electricity Supply Commission (ESCOM) also known by its Afrikaans name Elektrisiteitsvoorsieningskommissie (EVKOM), by the government of South Africa in terms of the Electricity Act (1922).

The utility is the largest producer of electricity in Africa and one of the ten largest electricity utilities in the world.

Eskom operates a number of notable power stations, including Kendal Power Station, the largest coal-fired power station in the world, and Koeberg nuclear power station.
