Escape is an Enrique Iglesias album recorded in English in 2001.

[edit] Making of the album

Enrique Iglesias wrote or co-wrote and co-produced every track on the album, which is a followup to his first English album Enrique. Enrique has said that for many of the tracks on the album he started out simply with titles that he later based the songs on. The first song to use this method was "Don't Turn Off the Lights", which was originally going to be the album title and the first single to be released on. Enrique also claims to have written several songs for this album and picked what he considered to be his ten best.

Later in 2001, a special edition of the album was released with two extra songs, being "Maybe" [Mark Taylor Mix]" and "To Love a Woman" [featuring Lionel Richie].

[edit] Chart success

Escape debuted at #2 on the Billboard 200, his then highest debut on the chart, with 267,000 copies sold the first week. As well as the single "Hero" the album topped the UK and Ireland album charts, making Enrique the first Latin artist to have a number 1 album on the UK charts as well as having a number one single and album simultaneously on the charts. The album also performed well throughout the world becoming triple platinum in the U.S., 4x platinum in the UK, 5x Platinum in Ireland, 6x Platinum in Canada and 4x Platinum in Australia, 3x Platinum in India, 2x platinum in Germany and Platinum and Gold (or their equivalents) in Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Spain and over 10 other countries. The album has now sold more than 9 million copies worldwide, becoming one of his most successful albums to date.

For most of the year, Escape was in the UK album chart's top 10. It was the best-selling album in for most of that 2002 in the UK until the release of Robbie Williams's Escapology and was also the best-selling album that year in Australia and one of the best-selling albums in Europe in 2002.
