Ernie Richardson

Ernest M. Richardson C.M. (born August 4, 1931 in Stoughton, Saskatchewan) is a Canadian and world curling champion who is part of a family team generally conceded to be the best male curlers of all time. ^[1]

Ernie Richardson was the skip of the Regina-based team made up of his brother Garnet and cousins Arnold and Wes Richardson who dominated Canadian and world curling during the late 1950's and early 1960's. Beginning in 1959, Ernie Richardson's team won the Canadian Championship four times in five years and captured four World Championships. He remains the only curler in history to skip a team to four world titles.

For his contribution to the sport of curling, in 1978 Ernie Richardson was made a member of the Order of Canada. Along with his brother and cousins, he was elected to the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame, Canada's Sports Hall of Fame (1968) and the Canadian Curling Hall of Fame (1973).

The author of several books on curling, Ernie Richardson's fame allowed him to create the first-ever line of personal curling apparel.

In 2004, CBC Television aired a one-hour documentary film about Ernie Richardson and his championship team titled "Kings of the World: The Curling Richardsons."
