Ernie Calverley

Ernest A. Calverley (born January 30, 1924 in Pawtucket, Rhode Island – died September 20, 2003) was an American basketball guard for the University of Rhode Island. His famous "shot heard round the world," a midcourt shot at Madison Square Garden in the National Invitation Tournament, helped get the Rams into the NIT final against the University of Kentucky, which URI lost.

Calverley led the Basketball Association of America in assists in the league's first year, while playing for the Providence Steamrollers. He later returned to URI to coach the Rams.
