Erik Bongcam-Rudloff

Erik Bongcam-Rudloff is a Chilean-born Swedish biologist and computer scientist. He received his doctorate in medical sciences from Uppsala University in 1994. As of 2005, he is an associate professor at the Linnaeus Centre for Bioinformatics in Uppsala (a joint initiative between Uppsala University and the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences). His main research deals with mammalian promoters regulation with particular emphasis on phenotypic traits in farm animals.

He is also the chairman of EMBnet which is a science-based group of collaborating bioinformatics nodes throughout Europe and a number of nodes outside Europe.

On January 22 1992, Erik survived an attack from John Ausonius, the notorious Laser Man. He was shot in the head, but contracted no life threatening injuries.
