Eric McLaren
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Dr. Eric McLaren serves as the principal and vice president for Academic Programs at IMSA, the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy. A long term resident of Aurora, Illinois, where the school is located, McLaren has lived there since 1966. He attended the West Aurora High School North Campus (which is now the IMSA campus.)
He began working for IMSA as an RC or Resident Counselor when IMSA first opened. Since then, he has filled the roles of Head Resident Counselor (2 years), Coordinator of Residential Life (5 years), Assistant Principal, Coordinator of Community Learning, and Interim Director of Student Leadership Development. Also, as the principal, McLaren lends a hand in most disciplinary actions in the school. His philosophy is not to punish the student, but to abate the pattern of crimes in his school.[citation needed] In most cases, this means expulsion. McLaren wants what is best for his students, but strictly enforces recent changes to the student handbook rules with no compromise.[citation needed]
He married Kim Vitek in July 1996, and became a parent to two boys.
