Eric Wade Heitmann (born on February 24, 1980, in Katy, Texas) is a center in the NFL. He currently plays for the San Francisco 49ers. He was drafted by the 49ers in the 7th round (239th overall) in the 2002 NFL Draft. He graduated from Stanford University where he was voted All-American following the 2001 season. Heitmann became the first Stanford offensive lineman voted All American since Bob Whitfield in 1992. Heitmann was the first rookie to start a game on the offensive line for the 49ers since 1987, when Harris Barton started at right tackle. Finished the 2002 season starting 11 games including two playoff contests. He switched to center in the absence of the regular center Jeremy Newberry. Prior to the 2005 season has worked to get stronger and more powerful under the tutelage of renown strength coach Johnny Parker. His work paid off early in mini camps and the 49ers signed him to a 4-year extension in June 2005. Started in all 16 games including 10 at right guard and six at center during the 2005 season. Anchored offense in SEASON-HIGH 217 rushing yards in win at St. Louis (12-24), team’s highest total since gaining 206 yards rushing at Philadelphia (12-31-03). Paved the way for RB Maurice Hicks’ 10 carries for 109 yards (10.9 avg.) and 73-yard touchdown on first play from scrimmage. Marked first offensive touchdown on first play of scrimmage since game at St. Louis game (9-17-00). Provided blocking as starting center in team’s first consecutive string of wins since 2002 season in finale vs. Houston (1-1-06).
