Eric H. du Plessis

Eric Hollingsworth du Plessis (born September 19, 1950 in Albertville, France) is a professor of French Language at Radford University, Radford, Virginia. Du Plessis is the Director of RU's French Language and Cultural Immersion Study Abroad program, which studies at the Centre International Des Études Françaises.

Du Plessis has published numerous articles on literature, linguistics, and historical/cultural studies in such journals and encyclopedias as Revue de Littérature Comparée, Poe Studies, European Studies Journal. Dalhousie French Studies, The World Education Encyclopedia, ALFA and the World Press Encyclopedia.

Du Plessis was born to Jean-Pierre Babu, a World War II veteran and architect, and Simone Demange. He immigrated to the United States in 1971 and lived in Richmond, Virginia. During this time, he attended VCU and was a substitute teacher at an all-black school. He then studied at the University of Virginia at Charlottesville, Virginia, where he obtained his Ph.D. He then moved to College Station, Texas in 1979 where he became a professor at Texas A&M University.

He became a professor at Radford University in 1987 and married Sarah Browning on June 15, 1991. He has three children: Carey, Harrison, and Miriam. He has a Wikipedia account, located here. He is also a fourth-degree black belt and has a student pilot license.
