Erdenet (Эрдэнэт) is the second-largest city in Mongolia. The capital of the aymag (province) of Orhon, it has a population of 88,243 (as of 2005).

Location: 49° 01' 40" N 104° 02' 40" E. Most Soviet era maps deliberately misplace Erdenet due to its strategic economic importance.

The city was built in 1975 to exploit Asia's largest deposit of copper ore. The "Erdenet Concern" is a joint Mongolian-Russian venture, and accounts for a majority of Mongolia's hard currency income.
