Antarctic surface temperature from ECMWF reanalyses, 1979-1993.

Summer: DJF (dec-jan-feb).

Winter: JJA (jun-jul-aug).

Data is the surface (not 1.5m) temperature from ECMWF 15 year reanalyses. Note that there are significant errors and uncertainties in these temperatures (W. M. Connolley and S. A. Harangozo, A comparison of five numerical weather prediction analysis climatologies in southern high latitudes, J. Climate, v14, 1 Jan 2001, pp 30-44). Over all the temperatures over the continent are probably biased cold in winter. The Ronne-Filchner and Ross ice shelves were represented as sea ice, and are thus too warm.
