The diocese has over 22,000 members in 155 congregations, and is thus the fifth-largest diocese in the Episcopal Church (USA). The see city is Philadelphia. The current bishop of the diocese is The Rt. Rev. Charles E. Bennison, Jr., with The Rt. Rev. Clarence Coleridge serving as Assistant Bishop. The bishop's cathedra (seat) is currently located at the new Philadelphia Cathedral in the "University City" section of Philadelphia, adjacent to both the University of Pennsylvania and Drexel University. Prior to its opening in 1998, the seat of the diocese was located at St. Mary's Cathedral on Ridge Avenue in the Roxborough section of the city. The new cathedral also serves as the ceremonial "seat" of the Southeastern Pennsylvania Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) in which the two denominations are in full communion with.
