[edit] Plot Set-Up

The threat of the Symbiote Invasion is over, and Doctor Octopus and his goons are once again behind bars. The city, and the people that call it home, can collectively breath a sigh of relief. Or can they? Evil abhors a vacuum, and with Doc Ock gone, can it really be that long before another rises in his place?

Unaware that her work has drawn the attention of sinister forces, Dr. Watts has developed the Bio-Nexus device, a miraculous new invention that would give any man or woman unspeakable power. In the hands of the one such as Electro, who knows what deviltry may be wrought. Electro, for one, intends to find out.

Electro arrives at Bio-Tech, the place where Dr Watts works and electrifies one security guard and two scientists. He then steals the Bio-Nexus device. More guards appear and Electro gives out an electric explosion. When all the guards were knocked out, Electro hisses, 'Soon...' he rockets out of Bio-Tech and escapes.

Later, after some activities of how the players can control Spidey, he confronts a a cloaked figure who robbed a bank. The cloaked figure escapes on a motorcycle and Spidey plants a spider-tracer on the motorcycle. Spidey beats up a few thugs who terrorize the city and then followed the signal of his tracer. On the way, Spidey fights hired goons and stopped several machine guns before he arrived at where his signal of the tracer ends: a warehouse.

Spidey once again beats up thugs and then asked one what he knew. The thug said,'I ain't telling you spit.' Spidey threathens the thug by hanging him with a webline. The thug gave up and said, '...they said something about hangar 18. That's all I know, I swear!'

Spidey let the thug down and he was charged down by the cloaked figure: Shocker. Spidey defeated Shocker by hitting him with crates and barrels. Spidey left Shocker for the police. Spidey figured out that the thug was talking about the hangar 18 at the airfield.

On the way to the airfield, Spidey was attacked by several mercenaries. The mercenaries activated a bomb and Spidey had to find four keys to deactivate the bomb. Spidey then continued his journey to the airfield.

[edit] Trivia

  • Entering the code "VVISIONS" will unlock "What If..." mode, changing various things in the game. For example, when Spider-Man has to fight the gang of thugs (just before battling Shocker), the barrels and crates will change into giant cans labeled 'Spidey-Soup" and wrapped gifts, respectively.
  • The game starts with a "Previously..." cutscene, which recaps the events of the previous game.
  • Likewise, it ends with the villains of this game locked in a jail cell together. In the next cell are the villains from the previous game. Humorously, Shocker asks if the old incarcerated knew how to play "Go Fish".
  • Like the previous game's final boss battle, "Monster Ock" (Doc Ock bonded with Carnage), this game features a never-before-seen enemy: "Hyper-Electro" (Electro with the Bio Nexus device equipped).
  • If the name entered at the beginning of the game is profanity, Spider-man will appear and punch the cursor back to 'A'.
  • The original version of the game was pulled after the September 11, 2001 attacks to change the final battle. Originally the battle was atop the North Tower of the World Trade Center, but since the towers were destroyed on September 11, the game was re-released with a different ending. Originally, Electro shouted "Top of the world, ma!" as he departed his battle with Spider-Man for the towers, giving Spidey the clue he needed to track him down for the final boss battle, but in the re-released game, he just happens to guess correctly.
  • The cutscene where Hammerhead discusses the importance of teamwork in their plan to stop Spider-Man is quoted from Robert De Niro's character Al Capone in the movie 'The Untouchables'.
