Entei (炎蹄, flaming hoof) is a yōba (妖馬, yōkai horse) character in the manga and anime series InuYasha.

Legend says that long ago, there was a death match between thousands of yōkai and evil humans, vying for a single prize. Entei is the prize and only the strongest person or yōkai are allowed to ride on him.

Together with his chosen champion, Entei and the yōkai Rengokuki started a killing spree that was only stopped by Master Shinsen, a monk with amazing spiritual powers so strong that he could seal demons with ease. The fight between them lasted 3 days and Shinsen was finally able to complete his exorcism.

In the English episode 141, Shinsen also referred to Entei as "flame emperor."

Entei and his rider were sealed in different locations far away from each other so it was less likely for their yōki (demonic energy) to interact. However, Akago, another detachment of Naraku that is actually the heart of Onigumo, in his search of the boundary of the Living World and Hades, freed Entei from his seal. In the process Akago was cut in half by Master Shinsen with his remaining power, but Akago did not die and both parts of his body survived (one of them spawned Hakudoshi while the other kept Akago's form).

After Entei is freed, he searches for his previous master and finds him. They are about to resume their path of destruction when Hakudoshi, who looks like a young child the same age as Kohaku, intercepts them. Entei senses that Hakudoshi is a lot more powerful than his current rider, so he abandons him as Hakudoshi is challenged. Hakudoshi easily defeats the demon and Entei willingly lets Hakudoshi ride on him.

Entei proves to be too fast in the few encounters with InuYasha's group, as the horse is able to easily evade Tessaiga's Wind Scar attack as well as Sango's Hiraikotsu.

In the manga, Kikyo finds Hakudoshi riding Entei during her brief time using the alias Hijiri-sama and fires a special arrow against the two of them. The arrow manages to penetrate their barrier and destroys Entei (Hakudoshi fell but survived). In the anime, this occurs while the group is on the way to Hijiri-sama's village, where Princess Abi's birds are attacking. Entei is unharmed by this attack, but is separated from Hakudoshi (who is reduced to a head and taken away by Kagura), and lured into a cave by Inuyasha and Kirara. Inuyasha unleashes the Bakuryūha on Entei to completely destroy him, since being in the cave reduces his maneuverability and prevents him from simply dodging as he had in the distant past.
