Ensemble Medusa
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Ensemble Medusa is an artist run, musical collective that promotes copyleft composition, improvisation, and multimedia. An American-Flemish Collaboration founded in 2001, in Ghent, Belgium, the primary interest of all the performers and collaborators is sound composition. Original members included Brent Wetters, Thomas Smetryns, and Jonathon Kirk. Their work draws influence from a variety of sources including Bruno Maderna, Mississippi John Hurt, LaMonte Young, and Glenn Gould's radio documentaries that dealt with Nordic solitude and isolation. They have long been interested in the importance of musical creation as a non-commercial activity, resulting in their concern for disseminating public domain and copyleft works. They have occasionally been linked with the Logos Foundation for experimental music.
