Enrique Gratas

Enrique Gratas is an award winning journalist and the anchor of Univision's Última Hora (Last Hour), the second most popular Spanish newscast in the United States. His newscast originates from Miami, Florida, and it airs weekdays beginning at 11:30 P.M. EST.

[edit] Biography

Gratas started working in Argentina as a radio speaker in 1966 to move to television news a year later. He moved to the United States in 1971 and worked as a correspondent for the Argentine television.

Later on he joined the sport division of the Los Angeles KWHY-TV station. In 1978 he conducted the first Spanish-language sports program from Los Angeles station KMEX-TV. From 1981 to 1985 he was the news director of the New Jersey WXTV.

In 1990 he moved to Miami to start the daily Ocurrió Así ("This is the way it happened"). When Gratas left Telemundo Network in 1999, Pedro Sevcec took over the show.

In October 1999 Gratas launched Última Hora on Univision, which successfully continues to be aired.

Gratas has covered the news as well as sports for over three decades. He used to anchor the news for several years in Los Angeles and later transferred to Miami, so that Univision could have a greater presence in the Spanish market.

He has had exclusive interviews with several world leaders. He also conducts inteviews with ordinary citizens to find out their views on particular subjects. The main focus of Última Hora is Mexico, Latin America, and South America. The program is an up to the minute broadcast.

Together with Jorge Ramos and María Elena Salinas, they are considered the most respected Spanish television journalist not only in United States, but as correspondents to Latin America.

Gratas is considered the Tom Brokaw of the Spanish speaking America, he is made fun of in comedy skits for his style of presenting the news. Even though his fame internationally might be greater than that of Ramos, both are widely recognized.
