[edit] 'Abolish the Buddha. Destroy Sakyamuni'
This language is taken directly from the Japanese, and perhaps describes the policy more clearly than does the history section at Shinto#State Shinto. The Japanese name for the policy is 廃仏毀釈. The article in the Japanese Wikipedia is 廃仏毀釈 In that article it says that 廃仏毀 is used generally, to refer to the destruction and the like of Buddhist facilities which were pulled down by the new government which was formed after the Meiji restoration.
