Enodis

Enodis plc is a British company headquartered in central London which manufactures foodmaking equipment. It is listed on the London Stock Exchange and is a constituent of the FTSE 250 Index.

Enodis was founded in northern England in the mid 19th century as a food merchant under the name S&W Berisford. It incorporated in 1910. In 1968 it acquired commodity trading company J&H Rayner (Mincing Lane) Limited and through the 1970s it expanded its commodity sector. The 1980s saw the acquisition of British Sugar, owner of the Silver Spoon brand, and diversification into property and financial services. Financial difficulties in the late 1980s and early 1990s led to a program of disposals, but a new acquisition drive occurred in the 1990s, with the purchase of the kitchen and joinery business Magnet and the Welbilt Corporation and Scotsman Group food equipment production companies. In 2000 the company changed its name to Enodis. In 2001 and 2002 Enodis sold its building and consumer products division, including Magnet, and also several other subsidiaries to become a focused food equipment production company.
