- The correct title of this article is eNom. The initial letter is shown capitalized due to technical restrictions.
The company eNom, Inc. is a domain name registration and services technology company founded in 1998 in Redmond, WA, and is the 3rd largest registrar of domain names according to RegistrarStats. As of May 2006, eNom claims to "manage" almost 7 million domain names. eNom is a major reseller of domain names, thus not all domains registered through its registrar are customers of eNom. Most of their domains are registered through resellers who use the Enom PDQ interface.

[edit] Controversy
[edit] Domain Hijacking
eNom and eNom resllers have become widely known for hijacking the domain names customers pay them to host. In July of 2006, Verizon Communications accused eNom of hijacking 144 versions of Verizon-trademarked domains. In 2004, eNom purchased (through a third party that shared their street address) the .info versions of 950,000 domain names owned by their customers, in a move protested by those owners.
Many customers complain that when they attempt to renew or transfer their domain, it ends up hijacked. In 2003, the FTC ruled that an eNom reseller had used deceptive tactics to trick customers into thinking they were renewing their domains, when in fact they were relinquishing their rights to the reseller, who could then sell the name back to the owner for a large fee.
[edit] Spam
eNom claims to have a "zero tolerance spam policy". However, they are recognized in the industry for being a very spam-friendly registrar, and they continually top the "worst offender" charts on anti-spam sites.
