Enjoy It!

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"Enjoy It!" is a song from the 1962 Walt Disney adventure film: In Search of the Castaways. It was sung by the French singer and entertainer, Maurice Chevalier and was written by Disney songwriters, Bob and Dick Sherman. 32 years earlier, Chevalier enjoyed his first American hit song with "Livin' In the Sunlight - Lovin' In the Moonlight" which was written by songwriters Al Lewis and Al Sherman. Al Sherman was Bob and Dick Sherman's father. Ironically, eight years after "Enjoy It!" was recorded, Chevalier came out of retirement to sing the title song from The Aristocats (also a Sherman Brothers song). Chevalier's American career was thus bookended by Sherman songs.

[edit] Trivia

  • The song is sung during a flood while the protaganists are trapped, high up in a tree. According to the songwriters, the song was inspired by an off-color, humorous statement (most likely falsely) attributed to Confucious: "When rape inevitable, best to lie back and 'Enjoy it'."
  • This song is one of many "life philosophy songs" which were written by the Sherman Brothers. Some others include:
  1. A Spoonful of Sugar
  2. A Man's Gotta Be (What He's Born To Be)
  3. The Roses of Success
  4. Brass Rings and Daydreams
  5. Fortuosity
