I think the distinction, although blurry, is probably more along the line of exactly what is being coded. An EAS box is always an endec, never a codec, for example. I think a line could be drawn between hardware (endecs) and software (codecs). Lemme think about that for a moment... --radiojon 09:33, 2003 Sep 7 (UTC)

Thanks. :-) I just tweaked the article a bit, so that it deals more with the hardware, and less with what would be considered a codec. I'll try to develop it more, to give more detail about how they are used in electronics. --radiojon 09:53, 2003 Sep 7 (UTC)
