Empire (computer game)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
There have been a number of different computer games called Empire. Several of them have some connection to various different games named Conquest or some derivative thereof.
Empire games include:
- A simple (yet subtle) turn-based military game that takes a few hours to play, written by Walter Bright in 1977. This game has descendents which are also called Empire, as well as one called Xconq and another called Strategic Conquest. See Classic Empire (computer game).
- A complicated turn-based military-economic game based on a game called Civilization which was written in 1972. One game typically takes several months to play. This family has descendents which are also called Empire. See Empire Classic (computer game).
- An economics game written for PLATO computers in the very early 1970s. It was renamed conquest and the name Empire was reused for a space-war game.
- A space-war action game with a Star Trek theme written for PLATO computers in 1972 with several descendents, none of which are named Empire, but one of which is named conquest. See PLATO Empire (computer game).
