[edit] Description
Emperor Jagang is the ruler of the Imperial Order and the only known living dreamwalker. Dreamwalkers were created by wizards during the ancient war as a weapon to be used against their enemies. A dreamwalker has the power to enter the minds of other people and enforce his will upon them. The gifted are especially susceptible, but with time a dreamwalker can enter the mind of any living person. Once there, he has access to their every thought and is able to do everything from taking control of their body to killing them. There are only two counters to this power: 1) through a special bond to the Lord of D'Hara, created by Alric Rahl during the ancient war, or 2) being born pristinely ungifted, which is an unintended result of the creation of number 1. Also, witches can block the attempts.
It was through his power as a dreamwalker that Jagang was able to work his way into a position of power in the Old World. He then managed to unite through warfare the many fractured tribes therein and forge the powerful Imperial Order. His mission now is nothing short of world domination, as he struggles to bring all men under the control of the Order. His main adversaries in this goal are Richard Rahl, the Master of D'Hara, and his wife Kahlan Amnell, the Mother Confessor. His second desire, to end all magic, makes every user of magic who isn't under his control his enemy. This is an ironic and contradictory goal since his very power must use the latent magic in humanity to exert his control.
