Emperor Go-Ichijō

Emperor Go-Ichijō (後一条天皇 Go-Ichijō Tennō) (October 12, 1008May 15, 1036) was the 68th imperial ruler of Japan, according to the traditional order of succession. He reigned from 1016 to 1036. His personal name was Atsuhira (敦成).

He was the second son of Emperor Ichijō. His mother was a daughter of Fujiwara no Michinaga.

Because he became emperor at the age of 8, upon the abdication of his first cousin once removed Emperor Sanjō, Fujiwara no Michinaga actually ruled as sesshō (regent).
