Emotional Centre

The Emotional Centre is one of the Centers described by Gurdjieff's fourth Way teaching. It has two components, the False (or lower) Emotional Center and the Higher Emotional Center. (Some Fourth Way schools break this down into two actual Centers). It corresponds to what Gurdjieff called the Way of the Monk (or Nun) involving an attitude of the way of faith, the cultivation of religious feelings (or Bhakti yoga), and self-sacrifice

[edit] The Lower or False Emotional Center
The person whose Center of Gravity remains in the Lower (or False) Center belongs to a state of consciousness called waking sleep. Gurdjieff called these people Man Number Two.
[edit] The Higher or True Emotional Center
A website by the by Ouspensky-Gurdjieff influenced group Fellowship of Friends describes the Higher Emotional Center as:
The higher emotional center has a feminine hue that may be evoked inadvertently by the gentle shock of out-of-patterns experiences, unexpected impressions, and natural beauty.
Gurdjieff described a person whose Center of Gravity has moved here as Man Number Five and engaging in Self-Remembering, or having objective knowledge of themselves.

The Higher Emotional Center corresponds to the Sun Level on the Ray of Creation and to the Gurdjieff hydrogen number H12.

- The functions of the Lower Emotional Center has analogies to that of the Limbic system (or possibly the Sympathetic nervous system in the triune brain model and to interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence.
