Emo hair
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Emo hair is one of the more superficial aspects of the Emo subculture. The common stereotype of emo hair is to have it worn over one eye and dyed jet-black, (although it may be dyed or streaked in many other colors). Emo hair is normally associated with long bangs over the eyes hence the term 'emo fringe.' There is no formal definition for this new hair trend of the emo community, as many variations do exist. However, Urban Dictionary attempts to define Emo hair as Any hair style with longer bangs that are parted to one side or the other; often to the right.

There is widespread frustration over the style by many Generation Xers who feel as if the genre is simply commercialized sadness. While Emo hair styles may have become popularized by Emo musicians and their followers, they have evolved into a fashion trend that is followed by many (especially teenagers) who are not even fans of the music. As the hair styles become more mainstream, there are more variations, although hardcore fans claim many of these "spin-off" styles are not true Emo styles. A website has even surfaced called RateMyEmover.com, that allows people to upload their Emo hair pictures to be rated by the community.
