Eminence is a city in Shannon County, Missouri, United States. The population was 548 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Shannon CountyGR6.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 4.9 km² (1.9 mi²), all land.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 548 people, 256 households, and 142 families residing in the city. The population density was 111.9/km² (290.4/mi²). There were 316 housing units at an average density of 64.6/km² (167.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 91.61% White, 0.91% African American, 2.55% Native American, and 4.93% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.09% of the population.

There were 256 households out of which 19.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.5% were married couples living together, 7.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 44.5% were non-families. 41.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 23.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.09 and the average family size was 2.85.

In the city the population was spread out with 19.5% under the age of 18, 7.5% from 18 to 24, 25.9% from 25 to 44, 22.3% from 45 to 64, and 24.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 43 years. For every 100 females there were 82.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 80.0 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $17,422, and the median income for a family was $21,607. Males had a median income of $20,250 versus $13,125 for females. The per capita income for the city was $10,696. About 23.8% of families and 31.4% of the population were below the poverty line, including 41.7% of those under age 18 and 21.7% of those age 65 or over.
