Emilia (Othello)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Emilia is a character in William Shakespeare's Othello. She is a servant and companion to Desdemona and wife to Iago.
Emilia seems to be a minor character for much of the play. She is used by Iago for her access to Desdemona and by Desdemona as a companion. She is intelligent and cynical but submissive and obedient to her husband, leading to speculation that she is in an abusive relationship. [citation needed]
After Desdemona's murder, Emilia challenges her husband and reveals Iago to be the ultimate villain. Iago fatally stabs Emilia as revenge.
