Elzhi

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jason Powers (better known as eLZhi) is a rapper and a member of the Detroit group Slum Village, which also consists of rapper T3. El's first industry check for $1000 came from his appearance on the late J Dilla's Welcome 2 Detroit album, on the cut "Come Get It". Soon afterwards, when Dilla left to pursue a solo career, eLZhi was chosen to replace him (with approval from Dilla).

Possessing a rapid-fire delivery and complex rhyme structures, El is the most lyrically celebrated member of the group. He formed Libido Speedo records with longtime friend, G-Unit producer, and fellow Detroit resident Nick Speed and they used the label to release Witness My Growth in late 2004. The mixtape follows El as he grows as an artist, featuring songs from as early as 1997 from his "Out of Focus EP". Production credits on the mixtape belong to J Dilla, Waajeed, Karriem Riggins, Page Kennedy, b.r. gunna, DJ Magnetic, Houseshoes and The Alchemist.

Elzhi is currently working on a solo album. Production on the album will include Prolyfic, who garnered praise for his work on Lupe Fiasco's Food & Liquor.
