ELWa
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In Wales, United Kingdom, ELWa - Education and Learning Wales was an Assembly Sponsored Public Body (ASPB) established by the Learning and Skills Act 2000. Its remit covered further education, government sponsored training, adult community learning and school sixth forms.
ELWa's main statutory responsibilities were to:
- Secure the provision of facilities for post-16 education and training in Wales (with the exception of higher education, see HEFCW);
- Encourage young people and adults to participate in learning; and
- Encourage employers to participate in, and contribute to the costs of, post-16 education and training.
ELWa was considered to be a quango. ELWa has now merged with the Welsh Assembly Government, since 1st April 2006. It is now located within the Department of Education, Lifelong Learning and Skills (DELLS).
