Elvira Annie Cowles

Elvira Annie Cowles (23 November 1813 in Unadilla, New York - 10 March 1871 in Farmington, Utah) is recognized as the twenty-eighth woman to marry LDS Church founder Joseph Smith, Jr. She was the daughter of Austin Cowles, a counselor in the Nauvoo stake presidency. Elvira had married Jonathan Holmes on December 1, 1842, and stayed with him until her death, living most of her later life in Farmington, Utah. She bore Holmes five daughters from 1845 to 1856.[1]
