[edit] General information
Elva kvinnor i ett hus (Eleven women in one house), released on December 1, 1975, was the last solo-album in the Swedish language by Swedish pop singer Agnetha Fältskog. The idea to this album already came in 1973 but then the pregency of Agnetha and later the success with ABBA led to a release in late 1975.
Agnetha wrote all songs herself with lyric by Bosse Carlgren. The only exception was the Swedish version of the ABBA-song S.O.S. which was written by Benny Andersson,Stig Anderson and Agnetha's husband Björn Ulvaeus. Agnetha's record company Cupol forced her to include a Swedish version of an ABBA song to increase the sales of the album.
[edit] Recording process
The album plans looked very different to what was done in the end. Agnetha and Bosse wanted to call the album "Tvolvor kvinnor i ett hus" (Twelfe Women In A House) which meant that each song of the album would describe a different character. The whole package would have been a gatefold-sleeve with a drawing by Bosse and several photos of Agnetha. But due to the success of ABBA Agnetha had not much time anymore to write and record her own songs. No one knew if this album would ever be finished so the record company cut the money for kt which made the gatefold sleeve impossible. In the end there where only ten songs written by Agnetha and together with S.O.S. (that didn't fit into the idea of different women) the album only featured ten songs. That's why many listeners didn't understand e.g. why Agnetha was thanking god in one track for the coffe she had. The concept that Agnetha would not sing about her own thoughts but about those of different women was not explained on the cover to many buyers where irritated.
Among fans "Elva kvinnor i ett hus" is seen as one of her best albums, even today 30 years after its release. The melodies of the songs where far more complex than on Agnetha's earlier compositions and the lyrics where small stories on their own. Agnetha's vocal performance was also far superiour to hers on her older recordings which was due o the vocal-training she did when ABBA started. The production of the album was higher than on other national albums, the influence of ABBA and their production standars was clearly noticeable.
[edit] Promotion and chart success
Agnetha did no promotion for this record again due to the success of ABBA. The only exception was a live-performance of Dom har glömt and "Tack för en underbar, vanlig dag" on TV-show Sommarnöjet.
The album entered the Swedish charts three times reaching #11 as the highest position.
