When the crew of Voyager investigate a cluster of space-borne life forms, Kes prematurely enters a stage in her life known as the 'Elogium', which is the only time in her life when she can conceive a child.
[edit] Plot Holes
We find out in this episode that Kes; can only conceive a child during 'Elogium', this only occurs once in her lifetime, and she will only produce a single child. This means that each pair of parents can only ever produce a single child in their life time resulting in a rapid extinction of her species.
