Talk:Elisabeth of Bavaria (1876-1965)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
<removed obsolete WP:RM note, from the time when this page was still named differently> this is her correct pre-marriage name; the renaming will cause confusion with her identically named aunt Elisabeth, Duchess in Bavaria (later Empress of Austria), but that's what the disambiguation page is for. [edit] Title
Even after reading the article, I don't know what her title was. Was she Queen of Belgium? Queen-consort or some such thing? I got here through a redirect for "Queen Elisabeth of the Belgians" which sounds a bit funny; is that a correct title for her? She married Albert before he was king; did he become king while they were married? --Andrew 01:07, Mar 5, 2005 (UTC)

- Yes, the title of the monarch of the country is "King of the Belgians". Yes, he became king after they married, upon the death of his father. Mowens35 15:03, 26 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- Actually, Albert I became King of the Belgians upon the death of his uncle Leopold II in 1909. -- fdewaele, 19:15, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] keep it
keep the current name, because it was her real name. Antares911 16:35, 10 Jun 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Title
This page should be moved to Elizabeth of Barvaria as per naming conventions for queen consorts. She certainly wasn't Elizabeth of Belgium prior to marriage!--Mpokane 16:08, 10 April 2006 (UTC)
- I concur. Charles 03:15, 1 May 2006 (UTC)
Oh my, this certainly should not be "Elizabeth of Belgium". Elisabeth of Bavaria would be correct, bit there is a crowd already. How about Elisabeth Gabriele of Bavaria. Shilkanni 22:30, 14 May 2006 (UTC)
- Elisabeth of Bavaria (Belgium) might be an option... A remote one at that. Elisabeth Gabriele should be avoided. I think the best option would be Elisabeth of Bavaria (1876-1965). Charles 22:46, 14 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] In later life
I'm verifying information about an archival photograph of "Queen Elisabeth and her husband" attending a Holocaust memorial ceremony in a Jewish cemetery in Brussels in 1955. My questions:
- Who was her husband and what was his title?
- Who succeeded Elisabeth in the monarchy, and when (i.e. upon her death, or earlier -- and if the latter is the case, what was her title at the time of her death?)
Thank you for any help you can provide! -- Deborahjay 13:00, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
- Queen Elisabeth wasn't the Belgian monarch, she was the wife of Albert I of Belgium, who was King of the Belgians. Upon Albert's accidental death in 1934, their son Leopold III of Belgium became King, her son had to abdicate in 1950 and then her grandson (Leopold's eldest son) Boudouin became King. Elisabeth never remarried. As to her title, she was referred to as Queen for the rest of her live. --fdewaele, 19:13, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
