Elizabeth Hand

Elizabeth Hand (b. March 29, 1957) is an American science fiction and fantasy writer.

Hand grew up in Pound Ridge, New York, where her father is the town justice. She studied drama and anthropology at the Catholic University of America.

Hand's first story was published in 1988, and her first novel, Winterlong, was published in 1990. With Paul Witcover, she created and wrote DC Comics' 1990s post-punk cult series Anima.[1] Hand's other works include Waking the Moon (1994), which won the James Tiptree Jr. Award and Mythopoeic Society Award, the contemporary fantasy Black Light (1999), a New York Times Notable Book, and the historical fantasy Mortal Love (2004), a Washington Post Notable Book. Her story collection Last Summer at Mars Hill (1998) includes the Nebula and World Fantasy award-winning title novella. Among more recent short fiction, "Pavane for a Prince of the Air" (2002) and "Cleopatra Brimstone" (2001) won the International Horror Guild Awards, and the collection Bibliomancy received the 2004 World Fantasy Award. Hand's next novel, Generation Loss, will be published by Harcourt and Small Beer Press. [2]
