Elizabeth Dawn

Elizabeth Dawn MBE (aka Liz Dawn, born Sylvia Butterfield on November 8, 1939 in North Ormesby, Middlesbrough) is a British actress, best known for her role as Vera Duckworth in the long running British soap opera, Coronation Street. First starting on the serial in 1974, she had more of a recurring role as a factory worker until her husband, Jack, (played by William Tarmey) first appeared in 1979 and later for a more concrete role in 1981.

After moving to Leeds at an early age, and doing her schooling there: She originally started her showbusiness career as a nightclub singer. She appeared in All Creatures Great and Small and Colin Welland's play Leeds United.

On Jan 10th 1990 Dawn was featured on This is Your Life.

In October 2000 Dawn was awarded an MBE for raising hundreds of thousands of pounds for hospitals in the Manchester and Leeds area. [1]

In mid 2004 Dawn was diagnosed with the incurable lung disease emphysema. [2] Despite the condition Dawn has stated her wish to continue to with her role in Coronation Street. [3]
