Eliecer Castillo

Eliecer Ramos Castillo, born October 25, 1970 in Havana, Cuba, is a Cuban boxer in the heavyweight division.

Purlette turned pro in 1996 and took a big step in 1998 and took on Chris Byrd, being outboxed over 10 round. In 2000 he drew with Alexander Zolkin and won a decision over Paea Wolfgramm, but in 2001 lost to veteran Tim Witherspoon. In 2002 he scored a big upset over prospect Andre Purlette via a 5th round KO. Since the big win, he's had varying success against big name opposition. In 2002 he lost to Charles Shufford, but had a big 2003, beating Lawrence Clay Bey and Corey Sanders. In 2004 he KO'd Uriah Grant in the 1st, leading to Grant's retirement. He was unable to build on the momentum and land a title shot, instead losing to contender DaVarryl Williamson in a close decision.
