Eleutherion
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Eleutherion is an ancient Byzantine port near Istanbul, Turkey (formerly known as Constantinople, the capital of the eastern Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman empires).
In November 2005, workers digging on a tunnel project discovered an ancient harbor of Byzantium, now known as the Theodosian harbor. This discovery is in the Yenikapi neighborhood of Istanbul. The Theodosian harbor is believed to be an expansion of an earlier port known as the Eleutherion port.
Eleutherion is the Greek word for freedom.
