Electoral district of Gembrook
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Electoral district of Gembrook is an electoral district of the Victorian Legislative Assembly. It is situated on the outskirts of Melbourne. Included within its boundaries are Cockatoo, Emerald, Gembrook, Narre Warren East, Warburton as well as parts of Belgrave and Berwick.
The seat was known as the Pakenham until 2002, when a redistribution moved most of Pakenham into the Bass thus forcing a change of name.
At the 2002 election the original Liberal candidate, shadow Treasurer Robert Dean was found to be ineligible to stand as a candidate after his electoral enrolment lapsed. While the Liberal Party were able to find a replacement in Upper House member Neil Lucas the seat was surprisingly and narrowly lost to the Australian Labor Party with this incident widely believed to be the cause. The incumbent member is Tammy Lobato.
