Elatinaceae is a family of flowering plants with 2 genera and about 40 species. These are mostly aquatic herbs found from temperate to tropical zones of Eurasia. Members of the family have opposite or whorled leaves and small flowers with two to five overlapping petals.
Waterwort (Elatine hexandra), a member of this family, and 2 similar species (Elatine hydropiper and Elatine macropoda) are often grown in aquariums.
