ELAN (Elan Microelectronics Corporation) was established in May 1994 in Hsinchu Science-Based Industrial Park - the Silicon Valley of Taiwan with initial capital of NT$1 billion and accumulated capital of NT$3.679 billion. The company was listed in Taiwan's Stock Exchange in April 4, 2000. Corporate shares are transferred out from OTC and listed in the mainboard on September 17, 2001. ELAN's major business covers research, development and marketing of integrated circuits (IC).
Its R&D is committed in developing high-tech economical products that can help in improving the livelihood and welfare of the general consumers.

Elan technology excels in the design of IC and in the development of software for embedded memory, analog IP, and wireless communication (DSP, Bluetooth). Available products includes consumer IC's, microcontrollers, PC peripherals, and much more. About fifty new products are released each year. Behind Elan technical strength is its dedicated R&D team. Through their expertise, Elan has been granted with the fourth highest number of patents among its peers in the industry.

Elan is an IC design house that places a great emphasis on technology. It delegates the masking, foundry, packaging, and testing processes of its developed IC products to a number of vendors who offers such services. Each vendor is carefully selected to ensure that they are qualified in the sought services and are expertise in field of their particular service line.

Elan has been marketing its IC products through agents and distributors backed with close and extensive sales and technical supports from company's marketing and engineering groups. This marketing system has been operating effectively and proves beneficial to both parties. Presently, Elan's products are available worldwide or in such countries as Japan, USA, Mainland China, and Europe. More marketing outlets will be opening in the near future to accommodate the growing market. Microcontroller (MCU) is the core of Elan's business. 4-bit, 8-bit, and 16-it MCU's are currently available. These MCU's are used as the processors for variety of consumer products, which include communication devices, home appliances, PC and play-station peripherals, wireless controllers, electronic toys, etc. Furthermore, Elan also offers in-depth know-how technologies in analog circuit design, embedded memory, LCD display, digital signal processor and system application integration. With the breakthrough in the reusability design capability, Elan has elevated its design know-how to another level of competence, which resulted in a shorter development cycle and expedites releases of new products into the market. With its sound technology base, Elan has embarked in forming alliances with prestigious local and foreign business professionals to reinforce its technical ability in achieving breakthrough in the system on a chip (SOC) technology. In the R&D of micro-controller IC, Elan uses the latest state-of-the-art VLSI computer assisted design hardware and software tools, which provides a very friendly and well-equipped IC development environment. Software development includes digital, analog, and mixed-signal integration design application software. Tools used to develop such software include EDA, hi-level design logic synthesis, circuit simulation and verification, auto placement and route. Elan has also established a Speech Lab, a Reliability Lab, Mixed-Signal Analysis Lab, and Digital & Analog Lab, which are equipped with most up-to-date evaluation and testing equipments. The great importance Elan has placed on R&D and the investment involved for personnel training, have received numerous recognitions and honors from various government agencies.
