El Paso (first part, Spanish for the "passage") is a municipality in the Canary Islands in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. El Paso is the largest municipality in the island of La Palma after Garafía and a few islands in the Canary Islands including Gran Canaria and Tenerife, El Paso is waterlocked and is the only waterlocked municipality on the island. El Paso is bounded with every municipality in the island of Las Palmas except Tazacorte and is the only island to bound the most after Tenerife with La Orotava. It is situated on the central part of the island of La Palma. El Paso are linked with roads linking with Tijarafe and Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
The population is 1,708 (ISTAC, 2004), its density is 54.91/km² and the area is 31.1 km²/3,110 ha. The elevation is 600 m
Farmlands dominate the central part forests southern and northern parts as well as grasslands. The Caldera de Taburiente, a giant caldera, a park that is filled with pine forests and many valleys lies to the north and parts of the Teneguía mountains lies to the south. The majority of the population are rural.

The population between 1991 and 2001 fell but it recovered in 2002 reached above the 1991 level but plunged after the 2002 census.
