El Escorial is a municipality in the Autonomous Community of Madrid, near the Spanish capital Madrid. Its population in 2002 was 11,912

The famous Royal Monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial, often called simply El Escorial and referred to as a palace, is located in the adjacent municipality of San Lorenzo de El Escorial.

The municipality of El Escorial contains the RENFE commuter train station connecting the area to Madrid.
