El Dorado Correctional Facility

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The El Dorado Correctional Facility is a maximum security prison that holds many high risk convicts, including Dennis Rader, the so-called "BTK killer". It is also home to Kansas' Reception and Diagnostic Unit (RDU).

[edit] History

Established in 1993, El Dorado Correctional Facility was constructed due to the growth in inmate population in Kansas. The Facility consists of: Three segregation units being A,B, and C cellhouses. A & B are generally the administrative segregation houses. Inmates in these two houses generally have a very long rap sheet of disobeying rules, are very violent, or are placed there on 'Protective Custody'. C cellhouse is the 'disciplinary segregation' house, which is where inmates who have disobeyed the rules are placed. D & E cellhouses are the RDU units, which processes EVERY male in the KDOC system. East A and East F are the general population units, as is U-Dorm (dormitory-style setting of general population). Information on inmates in the KDOC (Kansas Department Of Corrections) can be found at http://docnet.dc.state.ks.us/kasper2/input.asp .
