El (Л, л) is a letter of the Cyrillic alphabet. It is descended from the Greek letter lambda. It represents the /l/ (as in English "Lip") unless followed by a palatalizing vowel. Both the capital and lowercase printed El looks something like a hat with a curved left and a straight right. The letter is not to be confused with the capital printed Pe, which has both left and right legs straight. It is the thirteenth letter of the Russian alphabet.
