[edit] Thanks

Thanks for supporting me in my RfA. I really didn't think people appreciate my work here that much, but it's nice to see you do: my Request was closed with 66 supports and 4 opposes. I'll do my best not to turn your confidence down. If in any point in the future you get the feeling I'm doing something wrong, do not hesitate to drop me a line. --Dijxtra 11:56, 13 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Oppland-geo-stub

You wrote: Hei! I noticed that you've made several new stubs and marked them as {{Norway-geo-stub}}, rather than {{Oppland-geo-stub}}, please remember to use the new stub-tags (less work for me :) ). Keep up the good work! --Eivindt@c 19:49, 20 April 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the advisory. Since I'm often translated from the Norwegian, and there appears to be no Sogn og Fjordane geo stub, it is hard to remembeer that there is one for Oppland. I'll try to remember. Takk - Williamborg 19:58, 20 April 2006 (UTC)
Ah, I see you did it SognFjordane. A mite clumsy, but I'll try to remember... Williamborg 20:04, 20 April 2006 (UTC)
How does one make templates? Can't seem to find a tutorial in Wiki... Williamborg 20:05, 20 April 2006 (UTC)
The names of the stub-templates was decided by WP:WSS, so don't blame me for SognFjordane :) Templates are made just like articles, just start a Template:Whatever, I don't know if there's a specific template-making-help-page, but the same wikicodes apply to temps as the rest of Wikipedia. I usually "steal" codes from other temps and modify them. --Eivindt@c 20:31, 20 April 2006 (UTC)
Excellent. Thanks - Williamborg 02:01, 21 April 2006 (UTC)

The vote for deletion of Lists of farms in Oppland ended in nonconcensus. As a result, I propose moving forward after considering the varous comments in the discussion. As you are both a native Norwegian and one who voted for deletion, I'd be interested in understanding what you think appropriate criteria to merit inclusion in a list might be. Tusen takk - Williamborg 21:00, 14 May 2006 (UTC)

Appreciate your feedback. Many Norwegian farms are indeed small by standards of other countries and listing them invites proliferation of lists.
But Norwegian farms are historically significant in ways that, for example, Amreican farms seldom are:
  • Some are named in the Sagas.
  • Some were king's farms like Tofte in Dovre. Tofte and others like Tofte certainly deserve recognition.
  • Some played a role in military actions and warrant mention.
  • Some were the estates of the rich and powerful.
  • Many have a place in local histories. Many Norwegian-Americans are interested in them as a link to their personal past. And they find that Norwegian sources of this data are inaccessible.
I'll give cutting the list down some further thought. "Everything should be made as simple as possible, but no simplier."
Thanks - Williamborg 22:23, 14 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Admin coaching

It looks like I've been assigned as your admin coach under the Esperanza admin coaching program, along with User:Kimchi.sg. Probably the first thing to start off with is setting up a user sub-page (for example User:EivindFOyangen/Admin coaching) to keep all admin-coaching things together in one place (when conversation gets spread out over 3 user talk pages and countless archives it gets tricky!). Please do let me know what sort of thing you are wanting out of this. Cheers, Petros471 19:55, 22 April 2006 (UTC)

I've added some more to you AC page. Do you want notifications here on your talk page when I put new things there or are you happy just to follow it via watchlist? I will try and keep an eye on it via mine, but things can get lost in it, so it might be best if you just drop me a short notification on my talk page when it needs my attention. Thanks. Petros471 19:54, 23 April 2006 (UTC)
Do you use/know how to use IRC? I was just wondering as you seem to be online now if you wanted a chat re:admin things? Petros471 16:24, 30 April 2006 (UTC)
Yeah I know how to use it. Sorry about the late reply, somebody added a message on my talkpage right after you did, so I overlooked it, sorry. --Eivindt@c 19:11, 30 April 2006 (UTC)
Well I'm still around if you want to go on now? Petros471 19:13, 30 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Old Skool Esperanzial note

Since this isn't the result of an AC meeting, I have decided to go Old Skool. This note is to remind you that the elections are taking place now and will end at 23:50 UTC on 2006-04-29. Please vote here. Thanks. --Celestianpower háblame 20:42, 23 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Just another RFA thank you note

Dear EFO, I appreciate your vote and your kind words in my RFA. It has passed with an unexpected 114/2/2 and I feel honored by this show of confidence in me. Cheers! ←Humus sapiens ну? 03:11, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Harrison College

Is "grammar school" != "elementary school"? Am I missing something? - CrazyRussian talk/contribs/email 16:12, 30 April 2006 (UTC)

They theach 11 years and up, it's not a gloryfied kindergarden. Since every Barbadian Prime Minster and three out four native Governor General has graduated from this school, it can't be anything but notable in my opinion. --Eivindt@c 16:22, 30 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #3

The Administrator Coaching program is a program aimed at preparing Wikipedians for Adminship or helping them understand the intricacies of Wikipedia better. Recently, changes have been made to the requirements of coachees. Please review them before requesting this service.
This would be something like the Welcoming Committee, but for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. Some might like suggestions about how to learn vandal patrol, or mentoring on taking an article to featured status, or guidance with a proposal they plan to make at the Village Pump, for example. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.
Stressbusters
The Stressbusters are a subset of Esperanza aiming to investigate the causes of stress. New eyes on the situation are always welcome!
Note from the editor
As always, MiszaBot handled this delivery. Thank you! Also, congratulations go to Pschemp, Titoxd and Freakofnurture for being elected in the last elections! An Esperanzial May to all of the readership!
  1. Posting logs of the Esperanza IRC channel are explicitly banned anywhere. Violation of this rule results in deletion and a ban from the channel.
  2. A disclaimer is going to be added to the Esperanza main page. We are humans and, as such, are imperfect.
  3. Various revisions have been made to the Code of Conduct. Please see them, as the proposal is ready to be ratified by the community and enacted. All members will members to have to re-confirm their membership after accepting the Code of Conduct.
  4. Referendums are to be held on whether terms of AC members should be lengthened and whether we should abolish votes full stop.
  5. Admin Coaching reform is agreed upon.

[edit] oops!

Thanks v much for pointing out my sloppy error on the AFD vote, now fixed. Fuller reply on my talk. --BrownHairedGirl 02:24, 10 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Please forgive a silly question

OK, I apologize for this "silly question," but I feel compelled to ask. While I was actively editing an article at Wikipedia (a little before 8:00 pm Central Daylight Time) all of the sudden, all the blue Wikipedia "links" became blue and underlined. OK--silly question time: Why did this happen? Was this vandalism? Or did the Wiki-Administrators order a system-wide change over? Please tell me what happened, please? Thank you in advance. 01:05, 11 May 2006 (UTC)~ User:ProfessorPaul

[edit] Thank you for responding

Hey, after a few minutes, the problem "fixed" itself. But thank you for responding to me. I really enjoy Wikipedia. Editing it is my "recreation."  :) ProfessorPaul 01:30, 11 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Dwain Fuller

Eivind:

Yes, I am new to Wikipedia and am only beginning to familiarize myself with the inclusion criteria. Thanks for your message. Although the article on Dr. Dwain Fuller was written a bit tongue-and-cheek, I assure you that the content is factual and relevant. For starters, Dwain Fuller is one of only 200 or so Americans who hold both Medical and Law degrees, certainly placing him in rare company. Moreover, he is the senior partner at Texas Retina Associates, the country's second largest vitreo-retinal surgery practice and a group whose name resonates in ophthalmic circles around the world. He has authored two surgical textbooks and 35+ scientific articles. He also served his country honorably in the Vietnam War.

I understand that you are certainly very busy, but perhaps you could clarify something for me. Two of my favorite local sports talk show personalities (in Dallas, Texas) have Wikipedia entries, namely Gordon Keith and George Dunham. If you peruse their entries, some of it is patent nonsense. My article, however, is factual, although written with a humorous slant. What's the difference?

I appreciate your input. Let me know what I can do to better restructure the entry.

Thanks!

Hi Eivind - I'm very sorry to have disappointed your expectation in me, but it had become impossible for me to compromise my principles. I don't covet adminship at all, so it wasn't a difficult decision - I simply cannot accept misrepresentation and nonsense. However, I cannot tell you how greatly joyous I feel at the enthusiastic, wonderful support you expressed for me. I don't know how hard it will be to understand that your supports means extremely a lot to me. I thank you from my heart, and please let me know if I can ever be assistance or help in anything. [edit] Don't discredit yourself...

Thank you for making my point! However, please do not call legitimate and relevant edits vandalism. To do so is to discredit yourself. -- PCE 06:22, 16 May 2006 (UTC)

The dialog at the following link expresses a noticeably growing sentiment of contributors about all Wikimedia projects. Hopefully it will serve as a warning of the potential death blow which overly aggressive Wikimedia police work can inevitably deal. -- PCE 02:47, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Please Help, I'm quite confused.

im new to this editing stuff, and the guide made me more confused. You proposed my page be deleted, and i dont know how to nominate it for un-deletion. I understand why it was deleted, but i wasn't even finished writing it before it was deleted. I just needed more time and it would be a legitimate article. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you, --aleXandre 03:16, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] My RFA

Image:One-hundred-WikiThanks.gif Thank you, EivindFOyangen, for voting in my RFA. It closed with a final result of 75/1/0. Now that I am an administrator here, I will continue to improve this encyclopedia, using my new tools to revert vandalism, block persistent vandals, protect pages that have been vandalized intensively, and close AFD discussions. Any questions? Please contact me by adding a new section on my talk page. Again, thanks to all of you who participated!!! -- King of 23:05, 20 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Irish singer stub

I don't really know how many articles it might entail for this category. I can't imagine more than sixty.

[edit] My bad

I thought that the cutoff meant that if there were more than 60, it'd be disallowed. I could easily see upwards of that with diligent searching through the database.

[edit] You seem to be an expert

I'd like to add a User category for fans of the greatest band of all time. I'm reasonably sure that I could create a userbox image for the category. How do I create this usercategory? Alan 01:54, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] The Hip Project

Yeah, that's what I was talking about. I have a different idea for the look of the box itself, but that's basically it. Now I want to create the User template so others may use it. What's involved in that? Alan 03:04, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Hipsters of the world, Unite.

I am pretty sure about the box that I want. There's a bird image that's associated with The Hip, and I'll make the box when I get home. Thanks for the help. Alan 03:19, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the help, Eivind. I've modified the box as a temporary design. I'll update it later with the bird image. Alan 19:12, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

Please refrain from adding nonsense to Wikipedia, as you did to Objective validity of astrology. It is considered vandalism. If you would like to experiment, use the sandbox. --Eivindt@c 09:53, 25 May 2006 (UTC)

What the hell are you blathering about? Be specific. Most vandalism I've seen in the Astrology, Supernatural, and Police State articles are by debunkers/psuedo-academics pretending to have integrity. Andrew Homer 22:55, 25 May 2006 (UTC)

Check this guys history before you get too involved. In the past he has been unable to take advice or answer to criticism with anything but ad hominem attacks. Just don't think the conversation will rise above this level, is all I am saying. Lundse 09:20, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Jane Everson Hett Campbell

I am a bit confused. I thought that a prod was a request for an obvious delete, so I put a prod on the page. You indicated that you were contesting the prod, by listing it as an Article for Deletion. You then took no stand saying 'no vote'. Does that mean that you didn't want the article to pass into oblivion without additional comment? Or am I missing something? Bejnar 04:18, 30 May 2006 (UTC)

My mistake in not saying hoax after the prod. I thought that that was what the Talk pages were for. I have wondered when I found prods with blank Talk pages. Thanks for the clarification. Bejnar 04:42, 30 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Help.

Hey...

I am one of the people who run the Darkonin, a kingdom in the online Mud Dark and Shattered Lands. Some people are trying to get it deleted due to lack of "notablility." I got your name off the World of Warcraft history, if you would post on the talk page about how it is sort of notable, as if that isn't notable, neither is anything about World of Warcraft, or many a fantastical novel.

Thanks.

[edit] Atlantis FC

How about if you stop removing Atlantis FC from Woking England?

Not fair, not sporting behaviour and as for your comments, i suggest your type name of your club in any engine and see who is no notable.

please follow the rules of engagement.

[edit] Trying to create a template

For Hoodoo Gurus. I want to make something similar to The Tragically Hip template, where links for their albums and band member articles can be easily accessed. How do I get that started?

[edit] RfC request

I have been attacked one time too many by User:Andrew Homer - see his response to my last request he stop personal attacks [1] I am going to start an RfC and I was hoping you would certify it as a user who tried to resolve the problem. [edit] ancient treasure hunters

I am trying to contest the deletion, but I have never dealt with this before, and I am not sure I am 'doing it' correctly. In the talk page, I put in the following:

"A deletion of this page was proposed because of only 61 hits on the Google search engine. However, the summer camp now caters to hundreds of campers and merits its own page, explaining to people what the camp is and/or does.

This page is not an attempt to spam or advertise the camp. I have used Wikipedia for almost as long as it has been around, and I have seen article of far less relevance been allowed to stay. Wikipedia is after all - an Encyclopedia, and in order for an Encyclopedia to be truly complete, (especially an online type of this nature) it should be able to carry an article of relevance for the people.

Ancient Treasure Hunters is currently in midst of talks with television networks to create a reality series based on the camp. In fact, NBC has created a reality series called 'Treasure Hunters' and this has increased exposure of our camp becuase of people typing in the terms 'treasure hunters' into their various search engines.

We have received numerous emails requesting a short description or explanation fo the camp, and since I have always turned to Wikipedia as a valuable source of information, I feel that the same ability should be made available, that people can search their encyclopedia which can explain what the camp represents."

I just want to make sure that I am following the procedure for contesting the deletion. What else can I do to contest this deletion, or try to stop it?--Joshua 07:14, 12 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] A short Esperanzial update

As you may have gathered, discussions have been raging for about a week on the Esperanza talk page as to the future direction of Esperanza. Some of these are still ongoing and warrant more input (such as the idea to scrap the members list altogether). However, some decisions have been made and the charter has hence been amended. See what happened. Basically, the whole leadership has had a reshuffle, so please review the new, improved charter.

As a result, we are electing 4 people this month. They will replace JoanneB and Pschemp and form a new tranche A, serving until December. Elections will begin on 2006-07-02 and last until 2006-07-09. If you wish to run for a Council position, add your name to the list before 2006-07-02. For more details, see Wikipedia:Esperanza/June 2006 elections.

[edit] World Cup Sponsorship AfD

Hi, I just wanted to tell you that I’ve made some rather large additions to 2006 FIFA World Cup sponsorship and would appreciate if you could take a look at them and possibly reconsider your comment at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/2006 FIFA World Cup sponsorship. I thought it was a worthy topic, even though it had a wretched article, so I added information about revenue and the sponsorship process, the sponsor related controversies of this World Cup (tickets distribution, Budweiser in Germany, Mcdonalds at a sporting event), and took out the copyvios. Please take a look. Thanks! Vickser 19:34, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

Hi Eivind,

I am the person who started the Scandinavian Test-Wikipedia. I don't really speak any of the Scandinavian languages very well, so I was really waiting for someone like you, somebody who is a native speaker and is enthusiastic about the idea.

I agree that before getting started, we need to decide syntax, grammar, and vocabulary. I think the best place to do this is here: http://incubator.wikimedia.org/wiki/Talk:Test-wp/Skandinavisk/Leksikon

[edit] August Esperanza Newsletter

Program Feature: To-Do List
The Esperanza To-Do List is a place where you may list any request, big or small, for assistance. If you need help with archiving your usertalk, for example, all you need to do is list it here and somebody will help you out. Likewise, if you need help with some area of editing on Wikipedia, list it here! Again, any matter, trivial or not, can be placed on this page. However, all matters listed on this page must not be of an argumentative nature. You do not need to be a member of Esperanza (or this program) to place or fulfill requests on this page. If you don't have any requests, consider coming by and fulfilling a few! This program has not been very active, but has lots of potential!
What's New?
In order to help proposed programs become specific enough to make into full-fledged programs, the In development section of the proposals page has been created. Proposals that are promising, but need to be organized in more detail are listed here. Please take a look at what is there, and help the proposals turn into programs.
To improve both the layout and text of the front page, in an attempt to clarify the image of Esperanza, the front page is going to have some redesigning take place. Please take your creative minds to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Front page redesign to brainstorm good ideas.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  1. In order to make sure all users who join Esperanza are welcomed, a list of volunteers who are willing to welcome new Esperanzians is at Wikipedia:Esperanza/Members#Esperanza_welcomers. Please add yourself if you are interested; we want to make sure all new Esperanza members are welcomed!
  2. The In development section of the proposals page has been created.
  3. Proposals page: Some proposals have been moved to the aforementioned "In development" section, some have been left as a proposal, and others have been archived. For those proposals that were a good idea but didn't necessarily constitute a program, General Esperanzial Actions has been created.
  4. Two small pieces of charter reform will be decided on in a straw poll at Wikipedia talk:Esperanza/Governance. One involves filling the position of any councillors who may leave, the other involves reforming the charter.
  5. Until cooperation with the Kindness Campaign is better defined, it remains as a proposed program.
  6. There is a page for discussing the front page redesign.

Although having the newsletter appear on everyone's userpage is desired, this may not be ideal for everyone. If, in the future, you wish to receive a link to the newsletter, rather than the newsletter itself, you may add yourself to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Newsletter/Opt Out List.
