Ein Houd

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ein Houd was an Arab village near Mount Carmel, near Haifa. In 1948, the village was situated a few miles east of the Israeli town of Ein Hod. The villagers fled their village during the 1948 Arab-Israeli War and on their return were defined as internal refugees. Many of the Arab inhabitants were unable to return to their homes after the war.

The Israeli artists' village of Ein Hod was established close to the deserted village by the artist Marcel Janco in the early 1950s.

The village remains the subject of dispute within the context of the ongoing Arab-Israeli conflict in the Middle-East.
