Eighty-six is an Alternative Rock band based out of Boston, Massachusetts. They are originally from Falmouth, Cape Cod. They are also classified as pop-rock, power pop, and post punk.

They formed in 2000 with members Charlie Geyer (vocals, keyboards), Ben Elder (bass guitar) and Nate Rowland (drums) under the name larinx86. In 2001 Harry Brown (guitars) joined the band and soon after Rowland was replaced by John McNamara (drums, background vocals). They recorded their first studio release, "Stop Throwing Rocks at Me," in 2001 at Black and Blue Studios in New Bedford, Massachusetts. It was engineered by Joe Riley.

Their first release under the name "Eighty-six" was recorded in the winter of 2002 at the Musicians' Development Institute in Plymouth. It was engineered by "Snake". This release was entitled "Over the Bridge" to mark their departure from being strictly a "Cape Cod band" to being one that demanded respect from a broader audience. They began to tour Massachusetts and New England before their youngest member had turned 16.

Their third release was their most ambitious release of their young career. In the winter of 2003 they went to Emaginary Studios in Scituate to record "Uphill Battle", their first self released album. Engineer and producer Ian Hughes helped focus their sound into their own powerful brand of hooky pop-rock. They mixed the album at world renowned Courtlen Studios in Hanson of Aerosmith and Extreme fame. The album was digitally mastered at Artists' Development Association in Framingham under Dana White. They released their album on February 6, 2004 before a sold-out hometown crowd in Falmouth in a hall they booked themselves. They began to play shows all over the Northeast, from New Jersey to New Hampshire every weekend. They were all seniors in high school.

In the spring of 2004 All About Records head Russ Orcutt took notice when Eighty-six played at his venue in Taunton. Impressed by the energy and precision of their live show, he agreed to release their next recording through his label. Eighty-six continued to play shows each weekend, booking their most extensive tour in the summer of 2004.

In the winter of 2004 Eighty-six began to experiment with new sounds and instruments in an attempt to expand their musical breadth. For most of 2005 they wrote and recorded demos in a long and arduous process to find a signature sound that they could confidently call their own. In September of 2005 they moved to Boston, Massachusetts where they currently live. Their next release, "Quite Compelling" is due out early 2006 and will mark a daring departure for the band.
