[edit] The name
The municipality (originally the parish) is named after the old farm Eidsberg (Norse Eiđsberg), since the first church was built here. The first element is the genitive case of eiđ n 'path around a waterfall', the last element is berg n 'mountain'.
Until 1847 the name was written "Edsberg".
[edit] Coat-of-arms
The coat-of-arms is from modern times (1962). It shows the head of a bear.
