Egophony
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Egophony is an increased resonance of voice sounds, often caused by compressed or consolidated lung tissue due to a pleural effusion, tumor, or congestion. It results in a high-pitched nasal or bleating quality in the affected person's voice. To test for this condition, a doctor will listen to a patient's chest as he or she makes an 'e' sound, and if egophony is occurring, the doctor will hear it as an 'a'.
Egophony comes from the greek meaning of: to talk like a goat.
