[edit] History
The EGMUN project began in 2003 when some students from Espergærde Gymnasium & HF participated in Bonaventura Model United Nations. They came home and were very eager to participate in something similar in Denmark. But no Model UN existed in Denmark. So they started the first EGMUN conference in Espergærde, Denmark with about 50 delegates. It was held in the spring of 2003. There has been an annual EGMUN session every year since and in 2006 EGMUN had over 150 delegates from different European countries such as Denmark, Germany and Sweden plus Bulgaria and Turkey.
[edit] Organization
EGMUN has always been arranged by students from Espergærde Gymnasium & HF that pass on the MUN spirit to new students every year. At the start of every new school year in August the students who arranged the previous conference get together. They discuss how to get new students to join the project and which schools to invite to the next conference.
There is an annual MUN information meeting at Espergærde Gymnasium & HF where all new students get an introduction to MUN and how to help organizing EGMUN.
[edit] Structure of EGMUN
The structure of EGMUN has not changed much since its beginning. In EGMUN V there was a minor change because the Human Rights Commission turned into the Human Rights Council and was therefore not supposed to be under the General Assembly (GA), but it ended under the GA anyway and therefore the EGMUN organizers have been discussing whether or not to go back to the Human Rights Commission.
The following commissions and councils are represented at EGMUN:
- General Assembly
- Disarmament Committee
- Political Committee
- Special Conference on the Environment
- Security Council
- Human Rights Council (May change back to Human Rights Commission in 2007)
[edit] EGMUN V
The fifth session of EGMUN was held at Espergærde Gymnasium & HF, Denmark from Wednesday 22nd to Sunday 26th of November 2006. With over 150 delegates it was far bigger than the earlier conferences not reaching above 90 delegates. It became the first EGMUN conference to get a lot of attention in the media.
